Inspirational Muslim Women's Event - 6th Feb 2010

A couple of Kaizen Ryu Karate's female coaches went along to show their support at this revolutionary event, hosted at Little Ilford School in Newham. The only event of it's kind to be showcased in London.

The event was targeted at female Muslim students from the age of 11-17 as well as their parents. The aim is to raise aspiration of Muslim girls by exposure to positive role models of women who have broken through barriers to do a job outside of the traditional route for Muslim women in the UK.

The day was a hugely successful event, made possible by all the hard work of Ms Famida Noor Mohamed and her team.

A buffet breakfast courtesy of Newham Council was a nice welcome and made the early Saturday morning start a bit more bearable!

After breakfast, everyone were then ushered into one of the rooms to hear the women speakers for the day. Twelve women, all from diverse backgrounds; included police officer, engineer, nurse, scientist, journalist, sportswoman, entrepreneur and a lawyer, told their stories to the crowd. Questions and answers were encouraged to allow the girls and parents in the crowd to get more insight into the roles that these women have pursued.

There were also workshops set up for the day, and a promotional area displaying the variety of extra curricular activities or future educational activities. This was an opportunity to make links with the parents and reach out to this group of girls.

Jasmine said of the event "it was a really good day, and the speakers were such an inspiration to all, whether you were a muslim or not".
